Suntite Machining Workshop: A Full-Process Analysis from Design to Delivery

Posted on25 September 2025

I. Workshop Overview and Core Advantages

Suntite’s machining workshop specializes in mold design, manufacturing, maintenance, and related production services, widely applied in industries such as automotive, power tools, UAVs, underwater robotics, construction and home appliances, and rail transit. With advanced equipment, a professional technical team, and a scientific management system, it provides customers with high-precision, high-efficiency, and high-quality mold products, making it an indispensable part of modern manufacturing.

The workshop is supported by a professional team of 8 silicone rubber mold designers and 16 skilled technicians. Each team member has over 8 years of experience in the silicone rubber mold industry, proficient in various mold design software and manufacturing processes. The overall team achieves an annual capacity of up to 500 mass-production molds.

II. Main Functions

Mold Design and Development

Using CAD, CAE, and other professional software, the team performs 3D modeling, structural design, and process analysis based on customer needs and product requirements, ensuring mold feasibility and efficiency.

Mold Processing

Equipped with CNC machining centers, EDM machines, grinders, and milling machines, the workshop carries out precise machining of mold components. The processes cover milling, drilling, grinding, and EDM forming, ensuring dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

Assembly and Debugging

Mold components are assembled under strict standards to guarantee fit clearance, motion precision, and sealing performance. After assembly, molds undergo trial runs to test performance and product quality, followed by necessary adjustments and optimizations until production requirements are met.

Mold Maintenance and Servicing

Molds that show wear, damage, or failure are repaired to restore proper functionality. Preventive maintenance plans are implemented, including cleaning, lubrication, tightening, and precision checks, extending mold service life and enhancing reliability.

III. Core Hardware and Software

Processing Equipment
8 high-precision CNC machining centers, 7 CNC lathes, 2 EDM machines, 1 large precision surface grinder, 1 high-precision radial drilling machine, and 2 manual milling machines.

Auxiliary Equipment
Mold polishing machines, dry-ice cleaning machines, sandblasting machines, and laser welding equipment.

Software Tools
Design software: AutoCAD, UG/NX, Pro-E.
Programming software: Mastercam, UG.

IV. Workflow

Order Evaluation: Assess customer requirements, determine mold materials, processes, and timeline.

Design Phase: 3D modeling and parting design.

Machining and Manufacturing: Rough machining → precision machining → surface treatment (e.g., nitriding, chrome plating).

Assembly and Trial Run: Mold assembly followed by trial production, adjusting dimensions, draft angles, and other parameters.

Delivery and Acceptance: Customer validation before mass production and record archiving.

V. Key Technologies and Requirements

Precision Machining: Mold accuracy typically within ±0.01 mm or higher.

Material Selection: Common tool steels (e.g., P20, 718H, NAK80), considering wear resistance and toughness.

Process Control: Heat treatment (quenching, tempering), surface finishing (texturing, polishing, coating) are essential.

Standardized Management: Mold identification, service life tracking, and maintenance records.

VI. Workshop Management Focus

Safety Management: Regulated operation of heavy equipment to prevent accidents.

Cost Control: Optimized material utilization and reduced machining time.

Skill Training: Developing multi-skilled personnel proficient in design, programming, and operation.

6S Management: Maintaining workshop cleanliness and organization to improve efficiency.

As the “mother machine” of mass production, mold workshops directly influence product quality and manufacturing efficiency. With industrial upgrading, modern mold workshops are advancing toward greater automation and digitalization.
